Leave Out Violence - transform violence into LOVE
Our non-profit partner Leave Out Violence (LOVE) was created to reduce and help eliminate violence in the lives of youths and their communities. LOVE empowers teenagers and young adults through photography and journalism to initiate a movement of young spokespeople who communicate a message of non-violence. LOVE helps youth transform into brave leaders in the movement against violence. Since LOVE began in 1993, these young leaders have reached hundreds of thousands of young adults and inspired others to reject violence.

The Nicole Schiffman Center for LOVE Youth In August 2009, The Nicole Schiffman Foundation assisted LOVE in securing a new location for its youth outreach initiatives. The new center officially named, The Nicole Schiffman Center for LOVE Youth, is an expanded space that affords LOVE the opportunity to provide guidance to additional teenagers in need. The Center is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan and shares a space with the non-profit organization, the Anti-Violence Project, offering LOVE a wealth of additional resources. The Nicole Schiffman Center for LOVE Youth was made possible thanks to the Foundation’s successful fundraising efforts over the past few years.

LOVE Summer Program In 2008, The Nicole Schiffman Foundation presented LOVE with the necessary funds to expand the Fall/Spring school program and offer students a summer program during the school year off-season. The first summer program was initiated in 2008 providing students with the opportunity to produce their first youth-generated documentary. The documentary aimed to raise awareness of the violence embedded in our culture and communities, and to communicate a message of non-violence. The Summer Video Project was used as a teaching tool encouraging the students to harness their creative energies throughout the production and editing process. The inspiring video was aired at our 2nd Annual “A Night and Smile to Remember” Benefit at Mansion NY on August 7, 2008. The video was extremely well-received and is currently being used during LOVE Youth Outreach Seminars and Events. As a result of the summer program’s success, The Nicole Schiffman Foundation will continue to fund a yearly summer program thanks to the generous support of our donors.

Broadcast Journalism Program The Nicole Schiffman Foundation and LOVE have worked together to provide its students a new outlet to communicate a message that rejects violence as a lifestyle. It is equally important to incorporate broadcast in the mix of mediums to get this crucial message out. By providing LOVE with much needed computer equipment, made possible through the generous donations received at our 1st Annual “A Night and Smile to Remember” Benefit, the broadcast journalism program has strengthed LOVE's message and given its brave leaders the ability to reach a broader audience.

The Nicole Schiffman Foundation has partnered with the Long Island Crisis Center of Bellmore, New York to launch a viral marketing campaign to raise awareness of the crisis center counseling and support. The objective of this campaign is to reach out and speak directly to teenagers and young adults through public service announcements, social networking platforms, and an interactive website. LookCloserOnline.com launched in February 2009 with the hope of teaching teenagers and young adults not only how to handle their own demons but also how to best approach a troubled friend or acquaintance. This groundbreaking initiative has already proven to be a success reaching over 11,000 teenagers and young adults in the Long Island area during the first six months.

Children’s Medical Fund of New York – RAP Program
The Recognition and Prevention (RAP) Program, a speciality clinic and research program at the Zucker Hillside Hospital, LIJ Medical Center, is dedicated to the prevention of serious psychological disturbances in teenagers. A major focus of the program is the recognition of early warning signs among youths suggesting that a serious illness has begun to develop. The goal is to begin treatment sufficiently early to stop the progression of illness.
Special Tribute Fund Through the individual generous donations to The Children’s Medical Fund (CMF), The Nicole Schiffman Foundation has allowed the RAP Program to implement a high school youth outreach movement using literature and speaking programs. RAP will work with students who are concerned with recent changes in their thoughts and feelings, which can often be difficult to describe and confusing to a young adult. The RAP Program offers youths the opportunity to discuss their concerns with mental health professionals, with the hope of preventing future tragedies from occurring.
